How has your relationship been affected? I have a hard time telling the difference from what is just being "moody" because I feel terrible , and what isn't. My spouse just thinks im a jerk all the time now.
I am on the other side of ms, meaning I have had it 25 years, and all those fears and things I worried about have come to pass. Yes, it affected my career, my marriage, my ability to be the mother I wanted to be. You lose a lot along the way. But-big secret- so does everybody else. It takes a while to get used to the idea of having ms and what it means to you. You have to give yourself time to grieve what you may have lost and I am no Pollyanna and gonna say it's ok, you won't miss things because you will. But you will come to a point where you will look around and say : I am enough. I didn't get what I thought I deserved, but really does anyone? As flawed and damaged I may appear to others, I am enough. And anybody that disagrees with me can go f*** off. Best of luck to you.
I am the spouse of someone who has MS. While I do not experience his pain, frustration, moodiness & negativity towards me, it does not diminish or lessen what he has to endure daily. I can tell you that it is very difficult for the SO/SPOUSE as well. I feel like I can’t do anything right! Like I’m damned if I do & damned if I don’t. I try to help him but most of the time he refuses. I understand that at times he may feel like less of a man but I am not looking at it that way! I am sincerely trying to help him maybe make it easier for him somehow. We are really struggling right now & feel like I’m going insane! I just want to say that I may not be experiencing what he is but I am going through my own pain, frustration, moodiness & confusion. I hurt for him & would gladly trade places with him. It’s a “together” journey! May God Bless you all & your families!!!
You need to find that one person that can support you as a friend. If your relationship is purely physical, you will have a problem. I found someone that was my best friend and when I could no longer contribute to the sexual part of marriage he was still my best friend.
I know it is hard to think about what they have to put up with when you have MS, but if you have a positive attitude and not go into "the world owes me mode", it makes it easier for both of you. Yes life dealt you a bad hand, but why should others suffer for this bad hand?
If you can be positive, it will get better, I wake up in the morning and thank GOD for another day. I have Progressive Relapsing MS, but have come to call MS "Much Spirit" and no matter what happens, I have been given another day to be in this world and I should make the most of it.
I hope you find some good in each day that you have , Peace and Joy be with you.
To tell you the truth my relationship has become stronger. I have a man that understands and very supportive. Open doors walk beside me with my cane and helps with the smallest details around home. He is not with me everyday but it encourages me to be the strongest and best self I can be. He understands the limitations.
I have had already have shared some ups and downs with my other half. He doesnt know how to help me in some ways but so compassionate as a person. He supports me.the best he can. But when I dont ask him for help it upsets him. Which im bad about doing. And also bad about pushing him.away when I get emotional and anxious with my issues with whats going on. I feel like am losing my memory and mind some times. But he is a big help. He helps me find my self again.
