Hi i am new here i have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia and i beleive the symptoms are extremely similar to ms. i am really wanting to know a little bit more about m.s and to see if anyone has been diagnosed with fibromyalgia or thinks that i could have been misdiagnosed.
@A MyMSTeam Member, there are some people on this site that have been diagnosed with ms and fibro, and many other diseases..........if you feel like you want to leave no stone unturned, then that is your right.......you are the patient and you can request to see a specialist. Just because you have one, doesn't automatically mean you don't have the other.
Hi. Try asking to be referred to a Rheumatology Physiotherapist. They may run a Fibromyalgia support group which many patients fine useful. There are also drugs which help with the Fibromyalgia pain and improve sleep quality. Talk to your doctor.
Though the symptoms are similar to MS there are numerous conditions that have similar symptoms as MS but that doesn't mean it's MS. The diagnosis protocols for Fibromyalgia vs. MS are totally different.
With that said what type of doctor DX'd you as having Fibromyalgia ? Was it's your primary doctor, a rheumatologist or a neurologist ? An MRI is not typically a part of the DX'ing protocol for Fibromyalgia but did the Doctor do a Brain MRI with and without Gadolinium contrast to rule out MS ? If not and you're concerned you might consider asking doctor as to why an MRI wasn't done it wasn't and on what basis he/she ruled out the possibility of MS ? Not suggesting you have MS but rather just stating questions that might help you to put your mind at ease regarding MS.
Thank you this is what i am expecting. how long did it take you to progress
Hi, I was diagnosed with fibro for a decade, then I got worse, couldn't walk anymore without a rollator. They finally decided to run more tests (MRI), found lesions, and sent me to a neurologist. So I think early on ms can look a lot like fibromyalgia, depending on what your symptoms are.
