If you are in the Secondary Progressive stage, how often do you get an MRI?

Because I shared with my MS Nurse that I thought I had at least 3 relapses in 2016 (even though I have Secondary Progressive MS - SPMS), she is scheduling another MRI for me (hopefully in about 5-6 weeks). I have had 2 MRI scans in 2013, before being diagnosed - 1 without and 1 with the contrast dye. I usually only see my MS Nurse every 6 months but because it seems my MS has clearly worsened, she wants to see me in about 3 months. It was only on my visit to her in June 2016 that she explained some people with SPMS can still experience relapses, something I hadn't been aware of before. Now having this knowledge, in conjunction with gaining greater awareness of when my MS had worsened last year, am now going to review my past couple of years' diaries (usually note down "changes" in my MS and how long these have lasted) to hopefully identify other relapses I may have had but have not recognised.

Hi @Lightly99 that is what my neuro said and he tests me yearly for any change. He is my second neuro as the first retired, so I am comfortable with this, plus I read a lot about stage 2 of this disease! God Bless and keep you safe!!

I'm just curious about it. My neurologist (who I believe in and think is very good) seems to rely on the examination and cognitive tests more than the mri's right now. I didn't know what to expect. I had MS for many years without a diagnose and then he diagnosed me as secondary progressive. The MRI's I had at that time (about 18 months ago) were the last I've had.

I haven't had one for going on three years now; before that 6 years. My neuro said maybe next year. Works for me as I dislike them very much, even the standup MRI. God Bless and keep you safe!
