So I was just sitting around and out of nowhere I get a very sharp, stabbing pain in my left side. I couldn't breathe because it made the pain worse. I was scared. It finally went away once I forced myself up to walk around. So is that something that my MS caused and what was it? Anyone experienced this? I'm ok now, but maybe a little sore in that spot.
Too much sitting around can cause your ribs to compress and your lungs then have trouble fully expanding.
Ideally you should exercise and stretch, if that's not possible, a chiropractor (osteopath) may help.
My first reaction was to say it was the MS Hug, bug since I don't get it, I assume that ur is like getting squeezed. I would go to sees your Neuro
I think this may be what somebody laughingly christened the "hug." I get this sometimes and it feels like my chest has been encased in elastic bands. If I could just take a deep breath in I'm convinced they would snap and it would all be fine. It was very frightening the first time (I was just dozing off in bed) but just as I felt I couldn't cope anymore it just stopped. It has happened again in a variety of situations but never quite as scary as that first time
Okay, so I responded to your question and have no idea where my answer went. So if you get it twice, I apologize. My response is going to seem like I'm not taking your question seriously. Please don't take it that way. I have been a nurse for 15+ years. I have treated many patients with the same symptoms and I myself have experienced the same symptoms. This is just another possibility to consider. With all the medications we take and the symptoms you described, it sounds like a severe case of flatulence (gas). Gas gets trapped up high, dissipates with movement. It was able to move down and be released. The pain can be so severe that any attempt to take in a small breath of air can increase the pain!
@A MyMSTeam Member - Not a problem, I didn't think you were jijacking. If anyone else finds useful answers, then that's great. As for my answers, if it was as easy as just being gas trapped, I would love to have an answer that doesn't involve MS for a change. I'm well acquainted with the MS hug, had it for several months straight.... horrible experience. I don't get up and around much, so it could be what the first anwserer suggested. And I've had my heart checked several times for various reasons, so I don't think it's my ticker. Either way, I hope it's not something I experience again.
**Thanks for everyone's input**
