My big issue is that I have guilt about it. Some days I am fine. Other days I can barely move. My cognitive skills are less than ideal recently. I want to pursue my life which means I need less stress and I work in a high stress environment. I want to talk with someone who can help me navigate this crazy thing. I do have a psychologist that I meet with weekly. Anyone???
Once the insurance company approves your Long Term Disability Benefits, it will assign your case to one of its in-house attorneys. It's to the Insurance Company's benefit to help you through the maze of applying for Social Security Benefits. Reason being the Insurance Company's payout is reduced by what you receive from SSDI if approved by SSA.
Example - Most USA Long Term Disability (LTD) Policies pay out on average 60% of your current salary but can vary depending on the policy.
Yearly Salary : $40,000
Yearly LTD Benefit 60% $24,000 yearly
Yearly SSDI Benefit $12,000 yearly
Once approved by SSA for SSDI benefits the Insurance Company only has to pay the difference of $12,000 to bring the combined total to $24,000.
All numbers are for example purposes only and have no relevance to actual benefits whether it be LTD or SSA SSDI.
thank you. This was very helpful. I am worried because things look different than what is actually happening inside. I tend to put on the best face to get through the day or when I am really bad, no one sees me. I am determined, though, that I have to do what is right for me and that means less stress. Thank you.
Yes I have been going through all this for three years now. If you want any advise on this let me know through site. I get LTD and have my SS hearing in March.
