I'm currently in a seemingly never ending relapse and my most recent MRI showed new lesions. My doctor has asked me to choose a different medication other than the Avonex that I've been taking for nearly two years. I have fallen into the bottomless pit of websites for research on what meds are out there and what side effects are associated with each one. I was wondering what everyone's experiences have been as to what seemed to work for the longest period of time.
I was on Avonex for 1 year and went from having about 8 lesions to now between 30-40. 😖 I was switched to REBIF and have been taking it for 7 years and no new lesions, thank God. I still experience the usual issues because of previous damage. In my opinion only, why would the doctor ask you to choose? They are the experts presumably and they should suggest a therapy that they have had amazing results with. This actually makes me angry. Not bad enough that you suffer from MS and now you should do the research? That is jacked up! I would probably get a new doc???
Ive been on copaxone 40 mg 3 times a week been on it since February Ive had 3 relapses and continuous flares but they say it's one of the ones that have the least side effects good luck
It really is a bottomless pit with no lighting on the way down. I started on Copaxone, yet it still was a never ending relapse this entire past year (also had new lesions on MRI). Found a new doctor who said "we need to get you into remission" and started Rituxan (while still taking Copaxone 3x per week). It has helped me tremendously. After an issue with fatigue medication, I consulted another doctor (who switched me to Adderall after other failed attempts - Ritalin, Modafinal, Amantadine). I finally feel alive again and I'm hopeful the next MRI shows nothing new. This new doctor seems to be pushing Gilenya, since Rituxan isn't one you stay on forever, but I'm very hesitant to start Gilenya. At least I'm feeling so much better so maybe if you go with a heavy hitter like Rituxan, you'll get into remission and can have more time to choose a drug for long term maintenance and be more clear headed when making the decision.
