I went to one meeting of the MS Society 14 years ago when I was just diagnosed. For one, they all knew each other, were very cliquish, not exactly rude but basically ignored me. But worse, I was horrified at all the people with walkers and wheelchairs. I refused to allow myself to believe this was my future. I refused to be one of them. I fled and never went back. Three years later I was in a wheelchair.

This is the very first MS group I've ever communicated with! I find comfort in sharing with others who Understand. The usual and usually unhelpful responses from well meaning boobs are easier to deal with too. I think it's because for the first time, I'm not totally alone.

I was attending an MS support group that meets once a month at the Jack Purcell Community Center in Ottawa, Ontario. It's not on during the summer months, and will be starting up again in September. I loved getting together with others who attended, and discussing things that we can all relate to. We had great discussions, we shared info, and had lots of laughs.

I was also attending an MS exercise class there that met once a week. I highly recommend both the support group there, and the exercise class. I might occasionally go back to catch up with other members, but I'm in the process of finding a group and an exercise class in the Kemptville, Ontario area since I'll be moving there in September.

Use to be support leader for NMSS.
In the beginning, before being the leader, found group to be helpful! When MS progressed, and I could no longer drive to the meetings, the group dissolved.
