I did two MRI's. The first was of my brain done w/o contrast, a CTScan, just so they can rule out any other reasons for my symptoms (like a stroke). Went to a Neuro and they did an MRI of my spine with contrast to see if any more lesions show and my Dr found one active lesion and two inactive ones. So an MRI can help diagnosis of MS or it may not, and there are other test like a lumbar puncture. But it is up to your "team" of Dr's to diagnose and make that connection because there are so many different symptoms that alone may not mean anything but putting them together in a timeline may help in diagnosing ms.

It can, in my case the lesions are in the spine and they are harder to detect..get a copy of your CD and review and study. Learn the language and different areas.

That's the purpose of one. They will usually confirm it with a lumbar puncture.

Yes. An MRI can see some lesions even if you have no symptoms.
Although I know of one person with progressive ms who shows no lesions on an mri scan. She would be the exception.
