I have spasticity, so I’m guessing this is the cause...just curious if it happens to anyone else. Yesterday I had to drive for 4 hours...I noticed that if there was a bump in the road, my driving foot would press on the gas by itself. I guess it’s a good thing my car only has 4 cylinders. 🙄 Has anyone else experienced something like this? Afraid to tell anyone because I’m not ready to give up driving.

KT tapping is not anxiety, it's your autonomic nervous system kicking in when your muscle can't find a motor neuron to tell it what to do or the nerve is tired. It's why uncontrollable foot tapping is a sign of neuro!logical damage.
And the reason doctors do that rubber hammer on the knee test. People think doctors are worried if the reaction is small or delayed. But actually doctors are checking for an unusually large response, because that shows problems.

I got hand controls almost 4 years ago. It's been a life changer. I relied on my cruise control and prayer before. Now I can drive without worry if my foot will work or not.

Brian,

I'm mainly in a manual wheelchair when I'm out, and now drive a car with hand controls. Its a fixed frame chair, but that means the wheels are on quick release pins, and the back folds down. Getting the chair in and out is completely doable. I have to recline my drivers seat right back, take the wheels off, collapse the back of the chair and then lay back and drag it over my chest and into the passengers seat. I use a bungee cord to secure it too the seats headrest.
Means I'm completely mobile. Well as long as I can find a disabled space, or at least a space where I can fully open my car door.

Yes. the drive in wasnt as bad as the drive home. I knew it was time to stop driving when I ways praying every evening to not hurt the others on the road. My foot would come off the break pedal at stop lights. Its really hard to give up that Independence, but I dont know how I could live w/myself if I hurt someone
