I went for an brain MRI yesterday to get a baseline of my MS before I start my trial of Ocrelizumab /Ocrevus next week
Before i was properly diagnosed I had an MRI on my spine and multiple lesions were found there. I asked the Dr why my Spine wasnt looked at yesterday and he waffled about me being eligable for the trial was all that mattered. Im not happy with startinv a drug and not knowing if they are affecting the multiple lesions on my spine

The recommendation is consideration for basline spine but not for all people and regular spine MRI follow up is not required to see response to treatment. Spine MRIs arent as good at seeing lesions and clinical findings ie symptoms and exam findings are generally adequate for follow up. Brain MRI is done every 6-12 months on average. Thats just overall norm here obviously it varies depending on the individual as well.
Initially I had both thoraxic and cervical spine and brain done. Lesions were found in spine only at that time. In March, it will be 9 months Ive been on my med, Gilenya. Only a brain MRI was scheduled this time. Maybe the risk of the PML and the drugs we are on is the reason. Im not certain.
I think I recall being told that if there are no new symptoms, they wont check my spine areas. I did have a swallowing issue for a couple weeks last summer..thats brain, right? Then I had another symptom that would probably come from cervical spine area. Thats it in the 9 months I have taken meds. I will just let them tell me what to do and follow through.😀

@A MyMSTeam Member hkw do they know what's going on in the spine?? Are the lesions active? is there new activity??No activity??
Im sure there is a reasonable explanation as to why they don't look at the spine its just not clear to me yet?
