Hiya so I really want to trekk machu picchu in two years. I will be going with my wife who will help me do this I have foot drop, bad balance and problems with vision. Chances are we will have a private guide.
I have seen online that there is a 1day trekk but I would love to do 5-7 days. Has any one done machu picchu? If so how was it for you? How were the stairs? And were there any jumps you needed to do or something like that?
@A MyMSTeam Member - I went to Machu Picchu a few years ago. There is no way I could have done the trek in. I certainly could not have hiked to the top of Wayna Picchu - which you can see from the grounds of Machu Picchu. In the grand scheme of things, I am probably more mobile than most - although I do have some mobility issues and can't stand for very long and get dead leg after not too far. Last year I hiked a good portion of Mount Lassen in northern California, but the walking/hiking is for the most part fairly treacherous in Peru. The trails aren't like what we get in the states. If you take the train in and then shuttle, you will see most of the park and largely get around. We stayed in the Sacred Valley - which was awesome. If I had to do it again, I think I would stay at the hotel that is adjacent and get up early in the morning before the tourists arrive and soak in all the beauty. You can't go wrong no matter what you do. Just be prepared.
