Hi Friends!

It seems if there are 10 of us sitting outside, I’m the only one who comes in with mosquito bites and they’re the size of silver dollars!

Do you think this is could be an MS thing or a medication thing? Any feedback would be appreciated.

I’ll be home scratching 😫

Members related to the question about extreme sensitivity to mosquito bites, with many sharing that they too experience unusually large, painful welts that can last for weeks, while others noted mosquitoes seem to avoid them entirely. Several members offered practical tips to repel mosquitoes, including citronella candles, lemongrass oil, Cling Free dryer sheets, Avon Skin So Soft, garlic, and Lemon Eucalyptus repellent, along with Benadryl gel or Stingeze to calm the itch after a bite. A recurring theme was that an overactive histamine response may be linked to autoimmune conditions, though opinions were mixed on whether MS or medications directly cause the heightened reaction.

Medication causes your body to change in ways that it releases a chemical that does attract mosquitos. It can also change the scent of perfumes that give out that unique to you. I have always worn one perfume, started medications and it smelled awful. The reason I do know this is when I stopped all treatment for my ms I am wearing the perfume again. Mosquitos hate the scent of Cling Free dryer sheets lemongrass oils. I use to rub it in my hair and on my clothing. Look up Home remedies for repellents. Wish you a bite free night!

I am mozzie bait. When they bite, which they invariably do, it takes a few hours to react, but the swelling and itchiness increase in size until they can be almost the size of my palm. They last for up to a fortnight. Never wear yellow, or eat bananas for 24 hours before you go and sit outside. I use tropical strength aeroguard, and keep to long sleeves and trousers. I do have to say that since I stopped the meds I have had fewer bites.

@A MyMSTeam Member Histamine response being overly exaggerated is definitely an autoimmune problem. I’ve been dealing with it for a while. I can only speak to my health narrative, but it’s certainly part of my own epic memoir titled “My Body Wont Stop Attacking Itself: An Autobiography.”

Try Lemon Eucalyptus Repellent. Also, they do not like dryer sheets. I rub that all over my hair etc... Not only does it keep the bugs away but you are static free hahaha.
