Doctors never want to tell you the reality of what ms could really mean, its always positive or we'll try and fight it with this method for this long and see.. but i wona no what living with ms really means im sick of being "protected" or coddled. I really just want know what to expect and what could be coming
Right on Sis! You should know that will be your best defense. Go to MS.com. Plenty of info and see if you can order their free magazine "Momentum". Knowledge is power. Look for appropriate foods to heal too. Keep fighting.
Hi Jess, when I got My MS DX. at the age of 24, My Neurologist told Me within Five Years I would be in a Wheel Chair. Well I have been living with MS now for over 31 Years and I am still Walking and living My Life!!!! I really do not believe that even the Doctor's know how Ms will effect each of Us!!!! I say "Live Your Life"
I suspect u ask the question because of your many fears about the future, all u can do is live your life and see where the chips fall, stressing about it is pointless and the worst thing for your recovery.
My world crashed 5 years ago and I've gone from not being able to put 1 foot in front of the other to walking a mile and recovering to 90%, so it's not all doom and gloom nightmare stories.
You still have a life ahead and it's partly up to u as regards building strength and improving balance issues, things involving sensations u have to block out and fight through, i adopt the attitude that they're only feelings and feelings won't kill me. The more u do that the less u think about the MS after time.
Thankyou everyone for your replys, i understand the problem is that there is no one answer and ms means 100 different things for every one person going through it, i guess thats what im finding so irritating.. im looking for the cheat sheet that doesn't exist. In my circle of family and friends im the prepared one, im the one who gets the drunk ones home safe im the one to stay calm in the storm but i cant handle the hope and never knowing when it will hit, how hard it will hit and knowing if any day could be my last day of feeling my hands and feet or being able to walk to the shops on my own or the last time id see colours properly! every time it hits it takes apart of me and im never ready.
Hmmm, well there really is no way of preparing for what MS might do to you and even if you were told to expect X and Y happened would you think that was fair. I can only tell you what MS has done to me but I hope half the crap I've been asked to absorb aren't things you'll ever need to worry about but, sadly, you may have your own challenges. That's the fun of MS and yes that's the easiest way I found to describe MS. Look, I think waking up each day as a blessing not a right. I can't say I always looked at things that way. My hand may not cooperate for the entire time I need it to so I learned to write with my left hand and my right one because my right one might give out. Now, you can definitely tell the difference but so what. That's the joy of MS. What we are told to watch out for ends up not being a concern to us at all but this other thing. So try to enjoy the unpredictability of this thing you did nothing to get and try to adapt to the fact that there is no way to predict what will happen. Trust that I hope your symptoms will be minor. I would tell you to start taking vitamin D because I heard that helps but I don't know why I take 5000 milligrams of it every day. Hey, it won't kill me
