My neurologist the other day said he thinks it's MS I have. Which I've thought for years that's what I have. He gave me a script for a brain mri but without contrast. And I'm just wondering if brain lesions will still show without using the contrast? If anyone knows or has had experience with this please help! Thank you so much in advance!
The MRI will show lesions. When you have it with contrast then it shows new and active lesions
There is now information that gadolinium, which is the contrast they use to see active MS lesions, remains in the brain. So now, for all of us who have had years of MRI's with gadolinium contrast, we have yet another brain issue lol!
Hopefully, your doctor ordered it without contrast because he's educated on this problem and not because he has no clue about any of it.

Without contast will only show that they exist.
With contrast will show if they are active and if there is active inflammation in your CNS.
Old lesions just appear as scars.
Contrast is for active lesions. Some might not use it as a normal because it builds up in the brain
Just to make myself feel important and agree with the group, yes it will show lesions.
