Has anyone gotten a service dog for MS? If so how do you go about it, and is there financial help to help get a service dog out there somewhere?
I had a black lab that we had trained for me. We started out in basic obedience when he was a puppy and kept adding to his training. We had a special halter made and he could help me walk and he could pick things up for me. You just have to find a good trainer. It's a lot cheaper to do it yourself. He was the best dog ever and has since passed on. I have a lab mix now and we took her to the basic obedience and advanced. She will pick things up for me and bring them to me. She's not tall enough to help me walk. I guess what I'm getting at is find a good dog trainer and talk to them about this.
But to answer the question..I would look up "how to get a service animal and (your zip code)" in the same web search. I think its a lengthy process. Also, there are scammers, so Id make sure its through a reputable place? Maybe call Volunteers of America..maybe they have leads.
There is a lady in a support group I attend that has one just as Emotional support. I am sure any qualified disability can have one for service or emotional support. They just passed Mini horses as emotional support animals too. 😆
