Newby With MS Diagnosis (1/2/19)

My MS specialist told me, after I was diagnosed, that my next appointment would be at least a year away unless something urgent comes along
How do y'all keep your head during this time? I try to read what I've found. My MS specialist answered any questions I've sent to him through his portal
BUT I've got severe spinal stenosis (treated with cortisone shots and physical therapy), Crohn's Disease, Major Depressive Disorder, PTSD, anxiety problems, sun sensitivity from one of my drugs,… read more

The short answer is you keep it together SOME of the time, best thing you can do is have as stress free an environment as possible in the long run. In the short term you WILL have stress, it's unavoidable, try not to take it out on those closest to you, it can end badly and a support network in the future is useful, bear that in mind.

Cathi,

You got a raw deal for sure. See if he/she knows a good therapist (who knows MS) to help with the mental issues- no shame here. Many people with chronic conditions become depressed. Good luck!!

My husband and I love to birdwatch! There are so many wonderful things in this world. As for fall and the Houston area, bummer lol. It is so hot and humid down there! My sister and her family live there, so I told her I will only come visit when it is January or February lol. Maybe you could sit under the ac and look at nature on tv :) But seriously hopefully you can find a way to spend a little time sometimes when its not so hot outside. Also I have found that I love to plant flowers for color and texture at the entrances to my home and outside the windows I look out of everyday. I love to see color even if its in a flowerpot! I try to turn in bird reports to eBird every few days, I just love to go outside and listen even if it is only for a little bit.

Find the positive things in your life, and focus on them. I know that things can be overwhelming at times, but every day is a gift. I get very depressed sometimes too. I try to strengthen my faith and take each day as it comes.
