I searched the US Patent and Trademark Office for the patent application and subsequent patent grant for Ocrevus. It appears that the chemical elements of Ocrevus (generic Ocrelizumab) has other uses. Therefore the patent application was filed some years ago and therefore expires in 2023. The US FDA approved Ocrevus for Multiple Sclerosis in 2017.

@A MyMSTeam Member, you're correct but they're not the exact same drugs.

Rituxan is a similar B-cell killer that was originally used for lymphoma or leukemia cancer patients. Some MS doctors started using it "off script" for MS and found it effective at suppressing immune systems.

Ocrevus was developed as a similar B-cell killer but it removed all of the non-human (mouse) elements. Ocrevus has not shown to make people susceptible to PML though that is a possibility.

But @A MyMSTeam Member there is no generic version of Ocrevus.

The generic medication for Ocrevus is Ocrelizumab. This generic is not available until the patent for Ocrevus expires sometime in 2023.

Well..it might be Retuxan/ Retuximab. Exact same drug as Ocrevus. Ocrevus got to the finish line with a patent first. I am on Retuximab. Google both drugs in the same search term. Quite interesting.
