I get why you're asking Copaxone v Aubagio but I'd recommend just getting on 1 of them. Yes, both DMD's mentioned have side effects but that doesn't necessarily mean you'll have those side effects. Unfortunately, your neurologist has to make a SWAG (scientific wild a$$ guess) of which Disease Modifying Drug (DMD) you should take first. I really hope you find your MS drug right off but you should know you might not and that isn't a bad thing by itself. Maybe if there weren't over 10 FDA approved DMDs but 1 not working for you and you'll know but 9+ remaining isn't a bad thing. I've taken 4 different meds and I knew the 4th was for me shortly after taking the med for the first time. If you've decided taking a DMD is for you, just start until there is some evidence indicating you should change

That's common rhetoric, but I don't think that is true. (But I'm not an MD.)

I consider Copaxone worthless since science screams it does *nothing* for about 1/3 of the people sticking themselves with those needles. In my case after over a year on it I had major new lesions.

Copaxone's theory of working is bizarre and interesting, I think. Inject that poison into yourself and cause the white blood cells to rush to your arms, legs, belly or wherever you inject it and not be attacking your brain. Cool, but as I said it doesn't work for *many.*

When I was your age I was on no DMT for 20+ years with RRMS and feeling pretty damned good. I lived in a cool, northern climate in Vermont within 10 minutes from the Canadian border. So I have to wonder if it's Copaxone protecting you or a combination of diet, climate, stress level/attitude and other factors.

Either way -- keep doing what you're doing if it's working. 🙂

While Copaxone is an older med and less effective than the newer meds out today, it is the safest MS med with the least side effects. It is not an immune suppressant, which is somewhat relieving with Covid flying around everywhere. It is injections, so there are chances of lipoatrophy after prolonged injections in the same spot, but Copaxone stresses rotating your injection spots to decrease this risk. And if you use the autoject, you dont even have to really inject yourself. Ive been on Copaxone for 6 years now, due to being pregnant and breastfeeding, and I rarely have pain with injections. I like that theres no risk to my organs, or the ever-looming risk of cancer due to immune suppression that all the other medications carry.
Theres always a chance it wont work. But if it does work for you, it is the safest medication with least risk. I say its worth a try, at least.

I've never been on Aubagio but I was on Copaxone for over a year. I'd opt for most anything other than Copaxone. After a year-plus of jabbing myself with those needles and massaging away the lumps that I'd get an MRI showed active MS and significant damage -- Copaxone was not doing its job.

Copaxone is an older DMT drug, which is good. We have good data about its side effects and effectiveness.

Today Copaxone is *proven* to do *nothing* in about 1/3 of the people taking it. Its efficacy is so low that some neurologists wonder if we should be using it at all given the many newer and more effective DMT drugs that are out there.

I used Copaxone for the first 8 years and it worked great for me. All injection sights worked well for me except my stomach. I just left it out of the rotation eventually. I experienced no other side effects. Good luck.
