Live in small town and know that having a social group would beneficial and fun. It would be for all mobility challenged . I find there lots of support for disabled people but not so much for mobility challenged. Whats needed to start one? Just do it?
You can sure try! Go and start talking to people that might be interested. Make flyers and go to other groups too like churches and bingo games, assisted living places. Talk to lots of doctors and nurses and give out extra flyers.
Get listings in newspapers and bulletin boards. See if your local MS Society and other MS groups will help get the word out.
JUST START ONE!!! I know you'll be surprised at people that always thought about needing a group. I started a Zoom group with two other people. We grew by meeting people on this site and by living and meeting people. For our last meeting, I invited over 50 people in 7 time zones. I used to think I wasn't outgoing. I'm a para, we have someone else that's a para and our group includes a quad. You're welcome to come to ours so you can pick our brains to see how you can start a group. I would recommend getting a Zoom account to start (research by going to zoom.us). I know you can do this!
Hello I have never organized this type of group but I would say just do it.
when I was first diagnosed in "96" I went to an MS support group, it lasted for only 3-4 visits. I found the whining and bitching to be a real drag. Hang Tough!!!
Gayle,
All the answers to this question sound good to me. I know that when my brother was living with MS and was in a power chair he would have loved to be in such a group. I don't have mobility issues, but I will pray you can make this happen it will be good for you and all who are involved. God bless you for searching for these answers. I know I love being able to message each other on this site, but there is nothing like visiting with others where you can actually talk. Love you!ππ
