Hello everyone. Has anyone had any luck with obtaining life insurance policy with ms diagnosis? It is not offered through my employer. I am having a hard time getting approved with companies. Any recommendations? Thanks

Unfortunately, I had to drop my life insurance coverage because my rates shot up so much after my diagnosis. Part of it was because my primary care doctor, when the company interviewed her, told them that I'd asked her for referrals to in-network mental health providers. I never sought mental health care (although at times I think maybe I should!), but "multiple sclerosis" and "mental health" were listed as the justifications for the rate increase. I wish you all the best in finding a good policy, though! (Hopefully, there's SOMETHING offered by a company that understands that M.S. isn't a fatal diagnosis!)

Hi again, Britt! I just wanted to clarify what I meant in my first comment. I know that Rosita is right--some people do die of MS-related complications, given how differently the disease progresses in each individual--but from everything I've learned in the past couple of years, it seems like the gap in life expectancy between people who have MS and those who don't is narrowing rapidly. What I meant to say is that in most cases, a diagnosis of MS doesn't mean that you'll be dead within a year or two if you don't have other medical conditions that make things worse. Most of the people with MS that I know, both personally and people I follow in podcasts, social media, etc., have been living successfully with MS for years. The life insurance companies won't necessarily be writing those checks significantly sooner than they would write them for anyone else! I wish you all the best in your search for coverage. ☺️

I got life insurance through liberty mutual. It’s not cheap. I pay $48 a month for $10,000 coverage. But, they don’t ask any questions. I’ve been turned down by many others because of MS!!

Thank you. Can you recommend companies for burial insurance?

I've only found burial insurance. But once I turned 50 yrs old I could buy $30,000 for like $28 month. Not very good.
