Hi all, so I've been on aubagio for 5 years... this past year FDA approves a generic, so now my insurance won't cover name... I'm worried about switching to generic... when I started aubagio I was slightly sick and lost some hair, but it didn't last long and my hair grew back... I'm worried about switching to the generic and thinking maybe just switching meds altogether. Anyone with experience from name to generic?
Learn more about the drug treatment mentioned aboveAbout 15 years ago, I had to make a decision about taking Copaxone or Avonex...I was in both for 5 years. Copaxone, by itself for 3years before dual therapy. Picked Copaxone...no noticeable side effects or problems. About 4 years ago, insurance made me switch to Mylan's generic Copaxone...again no noticeable problems. Hope, if you have to go generic, it's the same for you too. 🤗
Your insurance may cover it if your neurologist can get pre-approval. It usually approves you for 6-12 months. Your doc can then get it again. I’ve always been told generic is the exact same medication. The pharmaceutical company’s exclusive expired so other companies can now make the same drug. They charge less because they didn’t spend the money to develop the drug. Hope that helps. Before becoming disabled, I was an HR Director and learned about this through negotiations at benefits time of year. Still talk to your neuro. She is your best source of info. Good luck!
Maybe talk with your neurologist and see if they can write the prescription with the exact name and specify "No generic".
