I have never experienced "the hug" per se. But earlier this week I had this horrible back pain, like right in the middle (think bra strap area) and It hurt to take a deep breath.
Someone posted about the hug and pain and it got me thinking, could it have been that? I always thought it was just pressure...
It lasted 2 days, I was blaming bad posture bc what else could it have been?... But I have never experienced anything like that before.
Thoughts? Anyone had something similar.
The MS hug is a painful symptom of multiple sclerosis (MS) that feels like a tight band squeezing the chest or ribs. Here are some key points about the MS hug:
- Description: It feels like a girdle around the torso, often described as a boa constrictor tightening, an elephant on the chest, or a tight bra

Hi, i have experienced the dreaded ms hug 5 times. For me, it felt like extreme pain at it's peak.
My first experience:
I was driving, started to feel a moderate pain from my sternum, behind my breasts and rib cage....and this running right through to my back. I was confused, got in my head and focused on my breathing and staying calm.....
The moderate pain kept escalating to a more intense, elephant on my chest with stabbing pain.
Then....after about 20 minutes....everything slowly started to subside.
Note: This ms hug.....is comparable to the ' nut cracker '......something associated to sliding diaphragmatic hernias.....
⭐ I hope this helped somewhat...
⭐⭐⭐ My ms hugs have lasted 2 days.....but not the hardcore pain, but more the uncomfortableness with my intercostal muscles due to that initial 10-20 minutes of muscles-nerve-breathing pain.
Take care......big hug...
Well, Maybe not cuz it was more back than chest... I mean taking a breath was painful and I had to force myself to breathe deep, but who knows.
