I was very fortunate. I was approved the first time for SSDI. I was diagnosed back in February of this year and I received a letter 3 weeks ago from SSDI stating I would receive my first check on September 18th for $2700. Then I will receive that same amount every 3rd week of every month. I did not receive any back pay because they said first 5 months is waiting period. I was lucky and had all my hospital, medical, and doctor records including MRI's and CAT scans.
