I’d like to add (and this is in super simplified terms) that gilenya essentially sequesters your white cells in your lymph system…when you go off of it, your body is suddenly flooded with the ability to amount any kind of attack…including the ability to attack itself in an MS flare (that’s about the simplest way I understand it). So when you go off of it, there is increased risk of a flare/relapse. That’s why my doc recommended the preemptive steroid infusions…Hope that helps or at least opens up a discussion with your doc! This was years ago for me so not sure what the current practice is regarding going off the drug.

I went off of it and went on ocrevus. My doc gave me a steroid infusion to minimize risk of relapse between the time I was off of it and time I could start new med. I still ended up with a bad relapse that required more steroids. When I switched care to another state they let me know that they wouldn’t have made me wait quite that long between my old med and new med. so I suggest looking up current standards and coming up with a plan with your doc.

Thank you for info. I had a stroke few weeks ago. Had to go off of it. If you had a stroke you can't be on it. Fortunatley pharmacist caught the conflict.
