I use shoes with big toe box to protect my foot. Sketchers is a brand I like. Heels are dangerous. Slides..slippers and open toe or wedges and handles do not have enough support. I saw a podiatrist. Because of chronic drop foot I get tight heel cords. I had surgery. It helped.
