My doctors never recommended any leg braces. I only wore AFO for foot drop. Braces can prevent you for exercising your own muscles to build strength. Muscles can atrophy over time. My right lower leg as atrophy and I can see it is narrower that the right. I have worn AFO for 60 years but o do take breaks. Most in water as you don't need them there.

Not familiar with knee braces for MS but I had osteoarthritis in my knees and wore braces before surgery. Now knees are fine.
Ankle weights were tried for my drop foot but only increased my spasticity and made gait more awkward. Not recommended.

One MyMSTeam member shared that they found a knee brace helpful when their "bad" leg would hyperextend, noting it provided support while they worked on building strength through exercises. For the best results with mobility aids:

• Work with a physical therapist to ensure proper fit and usage
• Combine braces with appropriate exercise to maintain strength
• Consider additional support devices like canes or walkers if needed
• Make sure to get the right type of brace for your specific walking challenge

Remember that pushing yourself too hard, even with support devices, may do more harm than good. Start slowly and listen to your body's signals.
