diagnosed with MS in 1992 I’ve tried many different natural “treatments” from diet, exercise, supplements and listening to my body. there weren’t any dmts available for RRMS other than experimental. I “managed” my disease through “diet”, exercise, sensory pain meds as best as possible. in early 2000’s along came Copaxone for me. Which was helping to slow the progression down. I was able to get by with this combo of treatments for 15yrs before progressing to the next “stage” (SPMS). my neurologist took me off of the Copaxone & I went back to only managing through diet, exercise & listening to my body. But here’s the thing, managing the symptoms of any particular type of MS doesn’t slow down the disease progression. Only a dmt can do that. There will always be good days & bad days as this disease can be so unpredictable. Just a few months shy of my 55th birthday I started Ocrevus infusions, as well as continuing my natural lifestyle. I have mixed opinions of it. I get asked by family/friends if it’s helping…the answer is I don’t know because Ocrevus doesn’t treat the symptoms of MS it is supposed slow the progression. So all the MS symptoms I’ve been experiencing are still there which I still manage the same way, other than having to increase dosages as I age.
In my experiences with MS a combination of natural remedies, a healthy lifestyle & using DMT’s is the best balance of treatments for the quality of life & overall feeling of wellness. Every person with MS has their own unique experiences dealing with this disease so follow how your body is feeling to do what’s best for you but I wouldn’t personally recommend stopping a dmt, unless there are bad side effects, if there are look at an alternative dmt if available. As we all age the disease continues to progress so the longer it can be slowed down the better

Were you ever on dmts? I'm thinking of going natural as I have had more symptoms whilst on ocrevus. So diet and supplements and listening to my body.

It's important to note that getting nutrients from food sources is generally safer than using supplements. High doses of certain vitamins can be dangerous - for example, excessive vitamin A can harm the liver. Before starting any supplements:

1. Consult your healthcare provider about potential interactions with MS medications
2. Get tested for specific nutrient deficiencies
3. Research using reliable, medically-reviewed sources
4. Purchase from reputable sources like local pharmacies rather than unknown online sellers
5. Remember that supplement reactions vary between individuals - there is no one-size-fits-all solution

While some supplements show promise for improving inflammation, fatigue, sleep, or cognitive function in MS, more research is still needed to make definitive recommendations.
