I'm always happy to talk about my MS. The general public has little knowledge about it. If I can bring more understanding, then I feel like I'm making some sort of contribution.
I also enjoy educating the public about MS. Let'em ask away...I'll gladly tell them.
Hello everyone. I have a comment up my sleeve that I might just use one of these times when MS comes up: 'MS? It's a crashing bore'. This was used at one point by a woman I knew who had a leg injury. I was impressed, it made her sound resilient and not keen on having a conversation. I must repeat, I've been keeping it up my sleeve, might not go over well.
Anybody who shows true interest in my MS, I’ll tell them. I truly appreciate the people who really care. My last boss asked me about it and how it affected my ability to do the job. (He didn’t believe I was truly sick)
Once I understood his game, I told him he can learn all he needs to know from HR since they had all the paperwork and helped me with the accommodations I needed. It was easy to leave that job!
@A MyMSTeam Member, when you are first diagnosed, it’s a lot like a tidal wave. We are like in a WTF state of mind. But try not to shut down completely. Stay engaged with your friends, as many ‘friends’ are going to drop off the grid because the don’t know how to deal with it. We are having enough trouble dealing with ‘It’ and we are the ones who have it. Try to keep the friends that ‘stay’ close! Share , but don’t scare with them what you are dealing either. Don’t push them away for too long if they do stick around!!
