Hello @A MyMSTeam Member. I won't pretend I understand your problem, but you had said that you would be moving to a different city. That sounds stressful so maybe if your health issue is an MS problem, it could be due to stress. I'm thinking of you, prayers and best wishes.

Why are you in the hospital again, and is your health getting worse?

It sounds like you're experiencing a serious MS relapse that's affecting your strength and ability to speak. Hospital stays often happen when MS symptoms become severe enough to interfere with daily activities like eating, drinking, self-care, or walking.

Symptoms that typically require hospitalization include:
- Severe weakness or inability to walk
- Disabling pain
- Significant speech or swallowing problems
- Vision impairment
- Balance issues

A MyMSTeam member shared a similar experience: "I'm back in the hospital. Second attack of the year that's landed me in hospital after nine years of no stays. Frustrated — paralysis, spasticity, legs just plum don't work."

The good news is that the hospital can provide treatments like steroids to help reduce inflammation and manage the relapse. This doesn't necessarily mean your MS is permanently worsening — relapses can improve with treatment and time. How can you get stronger?

Since you're dealing with significant weakness and speech difficulties, here's what can help:

While in the hospital:
- Work with physical therapists to build strength safely
- Cooperate with speech therapists who can help with communication and swallowing issues
- Allow your body to rest and recover from the relapse

After discharge:
- Continue physical therapy to rebuild strength gradually
- Consider speech therapy for ongoing communication challenges — they can provide exercises to strengthen mouth, tongue, and throat muscles
- Be honest with your neurologist about how frequently relapses are happening

If relapses are becoming more frequent or severe, discuss reviewing your treatment plan with your doctor. There may be newer medication options that could better control your MS.

Remember, as one member wisely noted, rest is crucial on bad days. Recovery takes time, but improvement is possible.
