Has anyone been prescribed Concerta for MS fatigue, and what are the side effects?

Yes, some people with MS have been prescribed Concerta (methylphenidate) for fatigue. A MyMSTeam member shared that "Ritalin gave me more energy and focus to complete tasks at work and make it through the day," while another said "It has allowed me to return to the living instead of being completely and utterly fatigued all day."

However, experiences vary. One member mentioned "I tried Ritalin, but it drives me nuts," and another had to stop because "it aggravates my anxiety."

Common side effects include:
- Increased blood pressure and heart rate
- Nausea and stomach pains
- Loss of appetite
- Sleep problems (if taken too late in the day)
- Anxiety in some people

Important considerations:

Methylphenidate is a Schedule 2 controlled substance with risks for dependency and abuse, so doctors prescribe it carefully. Research shows mixed results on whether stimulants like Concerta work better than placebo for MS fatigue, though some people do find relief.

Make sure your healthcare team knows all medications you're taking to avoid dangerous interactions. Working closely with your neurologist will help you weigh the benefits and risks for your specific situation.

I tried Ritalin. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't, so I'm not on it now.

Hi guys,
I was diagnosed with MS 1 year ago , an explosive introduction, several lesions over several weeks, the last 2 where on brain stem and has caused the most issues.
Worst being fatigue.
I went onto ritilin, climbing to 60mg per day (3 x 20mg) but only got me to 2pm.
And the ups and downs where dramatic.
Doc tried concerta to help even out the effects, built up to 36mg 7am, 36mg 11am and and additional 18mg at 2pm, to get me to 4pm.
Again... huge doses, and longevity not great, mood hard to control.
I actually took a step back ,to modafinil.
200mg 7am, 100mg 11am, 100mg 2pm.
Much more stable, no ups and downs, and often get to 6-7pm...
Has anyone else gone through this Extreme Fatigue... its been a year and no remission, scans every 6 months, stable,
Right side still numb after 1 year, vision blurred and overlapped, neuropathic pain in hands is significant, walk with a cane, as spasticity and balance is quite bad even with twice weekly neuropathic physio. MS hug constant, but is more like a harness around ribs, groin area, like a zip line harness... trigeminal neuralgia bad on forehead and one side of face (molten candlewax feeling)
Im yet to met anyone on this journey and wonder if there is any light at end of this tunnel.

I have before but it didn't work so currently I'm taking methylphenidate - generic word for Ritalin. Works very well.
