Honestly I get it because I have MS, but most people don’t even know that your immune system is attacking your nervous system in MS, so you either educate them or ignore them

I think that’s a brilliant come back. Unfortunately some people just can’t help but make stupid comments without thinking how it makes someone feel. I’ve had a fair few stupid comments over the years and generally deal with it with a snarky comeback as well. Unfortunately stupidity is also a chronic incurable affliction 😂

I kind of like your response there about your body cannibalizing your central nervous system. Might be kind of a downer if you actually said it to someone but I appreciate the witty dark humor there.
I suppose there is something to be said about positive self talk tho

Thank you all for the brilliant advice, empathy & hugs! It truly means a lot to me. Happy Friday Sending well wishes to you all. 🩵
@A MyMSTeam Member I like the way you think!
@A MyMSTeam Member 😂 I know it's going to be like talking to a wall for some of the people & sometimes I don't think it's worth the energy. Thank you lovely! 🩵
@A MyMSTeam Member I wholeheartedly agree, those statements shouldn't have been said. Please know I am Catholic & reconciliation is in two days.
I would have responded..."I asked my neurologist about the 'pew sitting protocol' for MS, but he said my insurance doesn't cover spine-shattering wooden benches as a form of physical therapy." I apologise if I've offended anyone.
@A MyMSTeam Member I'm working on being a duck & letting it roll off like water. Thank you Jeff. 🤗
@A MyMSTeam Member Yeah that was my response, I'm snarky & definitely have dark humor, I have found it therapeutic in this crazy roller coaster we call life. I do see what you mean tho.
@A MyMSTeam Member I like how you think! I know we can only control our thoughts, attitude & actions, I just find it hard for an overanalyzer like myself. MS is intrinsically unpredictable—this trait can make the lack of control feel especially overwhelming. For me right now, letting go feels less like tranquility and more like losing a defensive tool.
@A MyMSTeam Member You have it correct, it's a good one. My immediate family uses "Bless your heart" & since we are in NV very few people realize it's a backhanded compliment.
@A MyMSTeam Member Ditto 🩵
@A MyMSTeam Member 🤣😂🤣 You have me in stitches! I agree it's incurable. We are definitely on the same wavelength. I hate when ignorant people invalidate how someone feels.
I end up thinking, 'why would you say something so...before I know it I'm saying..."If you can't say something nice, at least show you have an above-average vocabulary & be creative with your use of silence."
