I'm so deeply sorry for the loss of your mother. Losing someone who was your best friend is incredibly painful, and your grief is completely valid.
Grief when you have MS can feel especially overwhelming. Many people with MS experience grief not just from loss, but also from changes in their own abilities and identity. The feelings you're experiencing now - sadness, loneliness, and heartbreak - are all normal parts of processing this profound loss.
Here are some ways to help yourself through this difficult time:
- Allow yourself to feel everything. You may want to scream, cry, or laugh - ride it out and let those emotions flow. It's the only way to get through it.
- Ask for help when you need it. Reach out to friends, family, or your faith community. People often want to help but don't know how unless you ask.
- Consider getting a pet if you're able. Pets can be incredibly helpful in managing depression and providing companionship during lonely times.
- Connect with others who understand. MyMSTeam members have been through stages of grief and can offer support from their own experiences.
Time makes loss slightly easier to manage, though you'll always carry your mother with you. Be gentle with yourself as you navigate this new reality.

Sending love to you during this difficult time, @A MyMSTeam Member. @A MyMSTeam Member, stated, find a bereavement support group. Even just to be present in that room, you won't feel so alone. I did that with my mom for almost 2 years. ๐ข

Allow yourself grace. Tears cleanse the soul. When my father suddenly died, it felt as if a part of me had been ripped away. I wasn't whole anymore. It can be isolating especially when I experienced S.T.U.G.s (sudden temporary upsurge of grief). Finding and joining a grief group really helped me. It was hard to open up and talk about at first but it definitely helped me to process my grief. Just take it one day at a time.
