I have Relapsing Remitting Multiple sclerosis and when perimenopause hit I suffered terribly with pain , cognitive impairment, chronic fatigue and depression. HRT and lifestyle changes worked for me but as a menopause coach now I’m interested in other people’s experiences.

Members responded to the question about how perimenopause has impacted MS symptoms, energy, and stability, with many sharing that the overlap between perimenopause and MS symptoms made it difficult to identify what was happening. Several members described being dismissed by doctors who attributed all symptoms to MS, leading to untreated depression, fatigue, and mood swings, while others found relief through HRT combining estradiol and progesterone, herbal supplements like black cohosh, and lifestyle changes. A recurring theme was the importance of self-advocacy, doing thorough research on HRT options, and supporting one another through a stage of life that often goes unrecognized in the MS community.

Thankyou everyone for your replies. @A MyMSTeam Member thankyou for sharing and I’m so sorry you had to deal with professional medical teams not listening to you! HRT can still be taken to prevent such things as cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis and cognitive decline even if you’re post Menopause! The latest research clearly shows that HRT is in fact extremely beneficial if it’s bio identical ( not synthetic) which synthetic HRT was the drug that caused all the concerns over increased risk of breast cancer etc. I have read a lot lately and there’s a clear link with MS and improved cognitive and fatigue symptoms if HRT is the right course for an individual! I hope you’re doing well now Marie! X I had a very similar experience lijé yourself and actually thought life wasn’t worth living at one point! 😞 x

Ohhhh ladies! We WILL SURVIVE. sorry for full caps. But Be powerful. That wasn't a SONG for no reason

Bc it's true! I'm 56 now. Omg that seems old to write! But. Here is am.

Let me share pls..
Married at 35.
Met hub at 34. Thru my friend , his cuz.
Her: just meet him for dinner you don't have to marry him or anything.
Me.Ok.
Dinner was great.. now what? OK.
How about 2 kids and 20 years later.

That was a few years ago. His beard is GRAY NOW!

Anyway.
Me-
I've had the BEST female drs. Both neuro and ob/gyn.
*I did have a male ob in Ca. Dr Rydfors. Very good....I had Denali with him. but he didn't have the EXACT body parts for other needs. (Just sayin)*

So time for menopause. Rukm? I had Asha at age 45. What? I know. They have this 'supplement ' called Fertilaid. Fertility aid and PLUS pre preg vit . 'They' were confident customers wld get pregnant. And I DID. OMG. THAT was old to be pregnant and PERFECT HEALTH while pregnant. Thx God. Good job.
Fast forward. Was OFF Ms drugs while trying to get preg.
Used Shaklee Supplements all the way. So happy with that brand. Still use in addition to Ochrevus.

Back to Menapause etc.
I used Gleeful OTC SUPP to fight meno 'symptoms' haha. They tout that ALL THIS and no estrogen...um...I told my gyn that. Dr Koala.(for real).
She said : good for you if it's workable for you. But you ARE IN full blown meno. (Whatttt?) I mean I'm NOT that old...umm. sorry, Ame... but you sorta ARE.
ugh ok and?

She suggested combo of estradiol and progesterone. Daily. Orally.

Just recently. She suggested additional estrogen tabs 2 times per week. Vag.. she said think of it as a tampon entrance. Ooookkkkaaayy.

Ladies, let me tell you.
Women need estrogen of some sort. I feel much better. Both hormonal and $xual.

They work hand in hand if you're willing to hold them.

Love you guys.
We WILL get thru this.
🤟🤙🫶🤲
Amy

Hi @A MyMSTeam Member, good question and topic. I had a terrible time. I was working full time, raising teens, cried when I got to work every day. I went to see GP repeatedly with extra fatigue, very bad temper and mood swings and what I can now see was depression. Every time I saw her she said oh no, that’s just your MS and hypothyroidism! I wanted to run away from my life. I never did get any treatment for perimenopause. It’s only now I am through it that I can see it was definitely perimenopause. It makes me angry as I suffered and so did my family. I have stressed to my daughter (almost 30) not to be ignored and brushed aside when she comes to that stage in her life.

Back in the day only 2 people also got cancer with HRT in the test group, that left a negative mark on HRT. I will listen to what my doctors say. The lowest amount for the shortest period is key.
