Members shared personal strategies for knowing when to push through or rest with MS, with a recurring theme being that the body gives clear signals that must be respected. Several members described specific warning signs like legs turning to jelly, increased pain, risk of falling, or small spasms as cues to stop, while others emphasized planning energy carefully and only tackling one demanding task per day. A few members also shared helpful tips like the Silver Sneakers gym program and a medication called modafinil, which one member credited with restoring their daily energy and quality of life.

I take Silver Sneakers classes at the gym. When I have done too many minutes of aerobics (about 15), my legs let me know that I need to continue sitting in my chair and doing weights, band, and ball exercises. There are several of us that have to do that because of Parkinsons or just old age -- several in mid to late eighties . Just smile and do what you can.

According to my neurologist, I’m kind of an MS unicorn as I don’t have pain or fatigue issues. This is great BUT it makes it tough to recognize when I’ve pushed too far. I recognize it when it’s too late 😫. All that to say, my mobility suffers greatly when I push too far. So I’m learning that when I start to feel small spasms/twinges in my legs, it’s time to rest. If I don’t, my right leg clocks out entirely 😂😩!

I always try to push through, but when my body says no more, I rest. If I over do it, the next day is a rest day for me as my body needs a recover. My motto is keep pushing, and moving cause at the end of this roller coaster ride I want to be known for “giving it my all”.

Push through until you can't then rest and recover.

@A MyMSTeam Member that is great !! I guess we just have to be in tune with our bodies and learn when to stop.
