I’m really struggling with guilt feelings about passing this disease on to her. My husband and I did consult with my neurologist before deciding to have a child, and he said that it was the same risk as the general population. Now I’m really wondering. Just curious if it’s happened to others and how you deal with the guilt.
there are a few people on here who have members in their family with it. Joanne will probably see this. her mom does but her daughter does not. There is some genetic susceptibility
Just as @A MyMSTeam Member stated, "out of your control". Don't place blame or guilt on yourself, it can run in families. I wish you both well!
I am sorry to hear that . This was out of your control and you should not feel guilt.
It's really really difficult - when I was first diagnosed my daughter wanted to know if she was in the firing line as well - at that time all I could say was that no-one ever anywhere in either side of my family had been diagnosed. Since then I've learned that it looks like there is a very small chance but I don't want to scare her with this. What do I say - take vitamin D and don't get sick with the Epstein Barr virus - there is nothing you can do to prevent it if it has you in its sights. A life spent prepping for such a disease is not living. I skirt around it by just encouraging her to be proactive with her all-round health and to not be afraid to see her GP if things feel off. She has seen what I went and are going through so I think she will be cognitive if something similar starts for her
I really didnt know my mother. But when I did meet her. She would walk funny and slur her words. I always thought she had been drinking. She past away [from drugs, not ms] and when I was diagnosed with ms years later, I just knew she had it.
A parent's worst fear.. well one of many. But I have talked to my daughters doctor about keeping on top of anything that may be signs even tho they say its too early yadda yadda.. Who really know what those signs are.
But for years now I try not to complain when she is around or give specifics to what is hurting or happening cause I dont know if she is repeating after me or if she has issues. Example would be her hand tingled. Or idk i cant remeber [go figure] something small but just weird like ants biting or burn. ya know? Anywho Im probably just crazy 😆
Dont feel guilty. Well as a parent its hard not too but you shouldnt. If it isnt ms it could be something else. Life is full of possibilities, what ifs and could've should'ves.
