Personally, I prefer IR. There is always a shortage with XR too. You will have trouble getting refills. Best thing to do is get prescribed to 30mg IR, then break it into fours. 7.5mg should be suffice depending on tolerance.

When it comes to managing MS-related fatigue, there isn't specific research comparing Adderall XR (extended-release) vs. Adderall IR (immediate-release) directly for MS fatigue. The "better" option really depends on individual needs and lifestyle.

When it comes to managing MS-related fatigue, there isn't specific research comparing Adderall XR (extended-release) vs. Adderall IR (immediate-release) directly for MS fatigue. The "better" option really depends on individual needs and lifestyle.

Here's a general breakdown of the differences:

- Adderall IR kicks in faster and lasts about 4–6 hours, giving more control over timing
- Adderall XR releases slowly over 10–12 hours, providing longer-lasting effects without needing a second dose

For MS fatigue specifically, timing matters a lot. One MyMSTeam member noted they only take their stimulant before 8 a.m., otherwise it disrupts their sleep — which is already a common challenge with MS. It's worth keeping in mind that amphetamine/dextroamphetamine (Adderall) is a Schedule 2 controlled substance, meaning it carries higher risks for dependency and abuse. Doctors tend to be cautious when prescribing stimulants for MS fatigue for this reason.

The best approach is to discuss both options with a neurologist, who can factor in sleep patterns, daily routine, and overall MS management to find the right fit.
