It sounds like Sue is going through a really tough time — catheter expulsion due to spasms is distressing, but it's great that the district nurse is on hand to help!

The suggestion of a larger catheter makes sense, as it can help prevent expulsion during spasms. However, it's important that Sue's neurologist or urologist is also kept in the loop, as the underlying bladder spasms themselves may need to be addressed. Bladder management in MS can be complex because spasms and retention issues can sometimes occur together. A specialist may consider options such as:

- Bladder medications to help manage spasms
- Bladder Botox injections (given every 3–4 months) to relax the bladder
- Suprapubic catheterization as a longer-term solution, where a tube is inserted through the lower abdomen, bypassing the urethra entirely

One MyMSTeam member who had suprapubic catheterization said it meant no more self-catheterization and no more bladder medication — a real quality-of-life improvement.

It's worth Sue discussing all available options with her specialist to find the best long-term solution for her comfort and wellbeing.
