Members responded with care to someone asking if eye pain lasting 4 days might be an MS flare, with the most common advice being to contact a neurologist as soon as possible or visit the ER if symptoms worsen. Several members suggested possible causes like optic neuritis or trigeminal neuralgia, while one member wisely reminded the group not to assume all pain is MS-related, since even something like a speck of dust can cause serious discomfort. A recurring theme was the importance of getting a professional evaluation quickly rather than waiting.

Eye pain lasting several days is definitely worth taking seriously, especially with MS. Pain in or around the eye โ€” particularly when moving it โ€” can be a sign of optic neuritis, which is inflammation of the optic nerve. It's one of the most common eye-related MS symptoms, affecting about half of people with MS at some point.

Other signs of optic neuritis to watch for include:

- Blurred or dim vision
- Blind spots
- Colors appearing washed out or gray
- Pain that worsens with eye movement A MyMSTeam member shared that they ignored eye pain for about a week before seeing a doctor, and it ended up taking months to recover. Getting checked early really matters โ€” it can prevent symptoms from worsening and speed up recovery.

Doctors may recommend corticosteroids (steroids) to help reduce inflammation and accelerate healing, though sometimes it does improve on its own with time. Please don't wait on this one โ€” reach out to your neurologist or ophthalmologist as soon as possible. Four days of eye pain is a good reason to get seen right away. ๐Ÿ‘๏ธ
