Having MS doesn't mean a fulfilling career is out of reach — around 61% of people with MS remain employed. The key is finding work that fits your current symptoms and limitations, whether that's reduced mobility, fatigue, or cognitive changes.

Here are some job types that tend to work well for people with MS:

- Remote/work-from-home roles — writer, customer support, call center employee
- Library or bookstore jobs — calmer, lower-stress environments
- Volunteer or part-time roles — great for those who can't manage full-time work
- Hobby-based work — turning a passion into a flexible, personally meaningful job It's also worth thinking about what to avoid based on your symptoms. If mobility is a challenge, physically demanding roles may not be the best fit. If cognitive symptoms are present, jobs that rely heavily on memory or fast decision-making might be worth steering clear of.

A MyMSTeam member who was a chef put it bluntly: "It is the worst career for someone with MS." So knowing your limits is just as important as knowing your strengths!

Working with a vocational rehabilitation counselor can be a great next step — they're trained to help people with MS explore career options that fit their needs and abilities.
