“Occipital neuralgia is a sharp, jabbing, electric-shock-like pain in the back of the head and scalp. In multiple sclerosis (MS), it occurs when demyelination (damage to the protective nerve coating) affects the upper cervical spine or occipital nerve roots. It can be a primary MS symptom or signal a relapse.”
I have occipital neuralgia. It acts up from time to time and definitely when I touch the back of my neck. I take Horizant because I can’t tolerate gabapentin. Horizant is extended release gabapentin. It helps a bit but I still have occipital neuralgia.
Thanks for mentioning gabapentin. I tried it and seemed to have some relief. I know it will settle down soon.
Like you said, it just acts up from time to time. Nasty when it does!
Thank you!
