I live in the Mountains in New Hampshire and have never had this issue before, with the exception of flying as most people do. It happens sporadically, I thought I could chalk it up to changes in barometric weather changes, but I think I ruled that out as cause.

I only seem to get this when we go into the mountains like Colorado or West Virginia for example … hills here in Kansas not an issue.
I've not had this issue, but since we live in the foothills we are changing altitudes alot. Good luck to you and I hope you get better
