Members dealing with feet and ankle swelling shared a variety of helpful strategies, including using an under-desk elliptical, elevating feet with a wedge pillow, doing calf extensions, and monitoring salt intake. Several members recommended compression socks and prescribed water pills for edema, while others emphasized that walking with proper heel-to-toe mechanics is key to reducing swelling. A recurring theme was the importance of talking to a doctor, with some members urging others to seek prompt medical attention since swelling can sometimes signal serious conditions like DVT or infections.

I have had this in the past, and *still* get this IF I don't walk enough

IMO the key is to walk and exercise your legs and feet. Using "compression socks" will help, but walking and exercising is the key. When walking, pay attention to the "mechanics" of walking -- hitting on your "heel" and "rolling" the foot forward launching off the "ball" of your feet. This will help stretch things and help you retain proper walking.

Hello Ann Burke. I have this problem and invested in a machine called Ellipse. It works the feet and ankles in a continuous motion up to a five mile per hour speed. This seems to really get the water off of the ankles and feet

I also suffer from this problem. I use several methods for this problem. First, i use a under desk elliptical (as one member said works great). i also use an elevated wedge pillow when sleeping (for times my swelling is bad). I do calf extensions serval times a day ( can be done laying down, seated down and standing. I also try to get up and move around (not sitting for prolong periods). And last, monitor my salt intake. Also, talk to your about anything you incorporate

Good luck

Thanks for the replies about swelling feet/ankles and after foot bath, compression socks and elevation of feet yesterday. Today I am back to feeling better again. Ann

Indeed, Jj3; it might be poor circulation or too much salt/sodium or might be something wrong with the feet like diabetes.
