Your wife is definitely not alone in this! Foot pain at bedtime is something many people with MS experience. It can be related to nerve pain, muscle spasms, or spasticity β€” all of which can feel worse at night when the body is still and muscles stay in the same position for hours.

A MyMSTeam member shared: "Had a horrible foot spasm last night, and my hip was hurting for days too." Another said: "Between leg cramps, muscle twitches, and neuropathic pain, it's no wonder I don't sleep well." There are some things that may help manage foot pain at night:

- Stretching before bed β€” gentle stretching, like flexing the feet, can help reduce spasms
- Layering socks β€” one MyMSTeam member found that wearing multiple layers of socks created counterpressure and made twitching less disruptive
- Supportive positioning β€” using pillows or foam wedges to keep joints comfortable and reduce muscle tension
- Avoid tight pajamas β€” tight clothing can actually trigger or worsen spasms
- Keep the room at a comfortable temperature

It's also really important that your wife mentions this to her neurologist or care team. Nerve pain and spasms can often be managed with medication timing adjustments or other treatments β€” and no one should just push through it!
