I had a terrible Migraine, and now the right side of my face has been numb for over a week, and my left leg is numb and weak. i also have vertigo really bad. i have one dose of steroids left and am taking gabapentin.
I suffer from migraine headaches frequently and they are horrific, I can't see or keep my balance I have to put hot clothes on my face for hours to get them to go away. No medication I have ever taken made them go away. I get migraines at least twice a month, and they stay anywhere from 2/3 days. I use to get them as a teenager into my mid twenties, then they went away and came back shortly after my diagnosis in 2006. I have very bad vertigo and it is caused by the MS. My migraines affect my right eye and right temple.
I live with complex migraines daily. Not a fun thing. Of it were not for the migraines I would not been diagnosed in the the I was. I take strong meds at night for th and on days that they are extreme a quiet place is solace for me. But since I've live so many years with them I've managed to love cohesively with my migraines and learned to use it as warning signs for other symptoms like visual or vocal problems that may arise. Your doctor is best qualified to suggest the best med for you. Though some days are better than others my migraines don't stop me. I have great doctors who have balanced my meds not aggressively to allow my system to respond and allow a comfort level. I have them daily but I can enjoy my every moment and you should too. Like others steroids or a poor diet day or poor liquid day makes for miserable but again before experimenting talk to your professional. They do know best and can make you more comfortable than you can expect. I hope you feel better. I know they are no fun.
@Allison, I hate the steroids as well. they are eating away at my bones and I should have gotten a hip replacement already, but I fear a flair up, and they have also put the pounds on me. Wish there were another alternative.
When I am on the IV steroids I always get a flushed face and headaches especially after a couple days on them. I do a 5 day round of IV's when I flare up really bad. I hate the steroid headache, not much helps as far as getting it to go away.
I was actually diagnosed with complex migraines, then it was specified as "hemiplegic migraines" which was not great news for me, in addition to the MS diagnosis. I have severe migraines, mainly on the right side, and suffered from right side paralysis that the docs believe was likely due to the hemiplegic migraines rather than the MS. It is hard to determine which symptoms are which for me - the numbness, pain, etc. I am being seen by both a migraine speialist and my neuro. The migraine specialist has me on a blood pressure medication that has been effective with others in reducing the migraines and my neuro has suggested Excedrin Migraine and Drammamine to help. I also get vertigo and the docs are in the air as to whether it is caused by the migraine or MS. Anyway, please feel free to read my story/updates...I am in complete sympathy with you. I'm there in the same battle.
