I try to feel sorry for them as they haven't a clue. I am comfortable saying some people with MS can run marathons and some die. They often don't continue the conversation, I am happy to offer more info if they are interested.
My daughters mother in law told me yesterday. "I'm just as sick as you are"
And she is walking, driving , ..living a normal life.
I'm in a wheelchair and can't drive or do much else for myself.
I never throw a pity party! But people have no idea unless they have MS what we deal with! And what we can and cannot do. I shrug it off mostly. But it's hurtful sometimes.
And I wouldn't wish MS on my worst enemy.
It really bothers me. Especially when my mother in law says, "well I knew a girl with ms. She was fine. You never would have known". Or when people tell me that I'm just exaggerating my symptoms and it really can't be that bad because they knew someone that knew someone that knew someone that had ms and they didn't have this Many problems. Or when people ask me, "are you sure it's not Lyme?" Yes I am sure! It's only been checked 4 times!!!! I appreciate people's comments that are empathic or sincere. But not when they compare to other people.
Geez yes. A family member by marriage is always telling me about how this woman at the bank sister's nieces, brother's wife daughters husbands daughter has MS and "she doesn't take any meds - she's fine."it makes me wanna slap her. My husbands says she this in law suffers from a form of MS. Mouth shits. Mouth opens a bunch of shit comes out.
Always makes me laugh.
It bothers me when they say it in a way that I should be more like the person they are comparing me with (if they are physically better). Like I am doing something wrong, and should help myself more.
