Ahhh..so much here...if your loans are educational (thru dept of Ed-I had 70,000) yes, they will forgive entire debt-first 3 years I had to send in a form from my Dr....if u go out on retirement Medicaid doesn't kick in for 2 years-so b sure to buy a cobra thru your work to fill that cap-also, consider once on Medicaid to get a supplemental since Medicaid doesn't cover many MS drugs

Good Morning @A MyMSTeam Member, First of all I wish you well, and you are doing the most important thing by taking care of yourself.

I stopped working a year ago August, and like you I am able to walk, but I wasn't able to do all the things of life AND work.

I filed for SSD in Feb. on my own. Got denied and now have an attorney. So it's standard procedure. Now I am in another waiting period and I know I could get denied again.

I recommend getting an attorney sooner rather than later. My attorney will get paid a percentage of my back pay when I get disability. As difficult as it is for MSers to get approved, she wouldn't have taken my case if she didn't feel we would win.

It's just a long road no matter how you slice it. The attorney can handle all the paperwork and put everything in to SS the way it should be. Less stress for you.

I had to quit my job and I did go on disability and I also got medicare. It was in 1972 !! So much has changed since then...perhaps research is your best bet now to learn as much as you can about what is available to you. Best wishes. Hold on...something will work out just fine for you.

I am not in a wheel chair and was got Ssdi. You have to not work for six months before you apply. You can file yourself online. Most get denied initially. Most attorneys that handle these cases only charge if you win your appeal. The fee is deducted directly from your back pay check. It took me 18 months before I received money. Medicare doesn't kick in until 2 years after your disability begins. Go to www.ssa.gov for more info.

So glad to know you've told your kids and they're helping you notice things to document. Documenting will be important if you apply for SSDI.
Also glad you're able to help them with questions about their parents and aid for meds.
Sounds like you're setting a good example for them. :)
