I have taken Ritalin for three years, for walking. I have had no side-effects that I am aware of. It has been helpful, and I can always tell it's measurable effects. Ampyra I have not taken, and would question whether both should be taken at the same time. Not that I know everything, but they are both walking aids. Starting both at the same time would not let you see the separate effects of each one. I would favor taking one, seeing what it does, and adding the second one a month (or so) later. Some people with MS don't favor taking prescription medicines. I am on the side of 'better living through chemistry' when used judiciously, under the guidance of a good neurologist. Not all neurologists are good, or know MS in detail, and a person can become overmedicated. I have been there too.

I took Ampyra for about a year. A VERY ODD side effect from it i had was being cold. Seriously, even in the summer i was cold and my legs felt cold. The results I got from it was very small for walking better. I got tired of being cold year around and stopped it own my own. If you go to Wekipedia and type in Ampyra you'll find that it's made from the same stuff they poison birds with to control their population. That is a very scary finding.

My son was on Ritalin for Add+hd (autism)for to make him concentrate at school, it made his heart go fast in the beginning.
A very powerful drug.

I haven't been on Ampera took Ritalin low dose for fatigue just made me more fatigued but I didn't need it to help with ambulation. Problem is we are all different what works or doesn't work for one maybe a god send for others. Lots of info on all MS drugs the side effects, on the internet, researching, and picking one you feel is the best choice for you is my advice. I picked my MS med my doctor didn't pick it for me. Empower yourself with education. Just because a drug has a risk of side effects doesn't mean it will effect you that way. Don't feel rushed this is your disease, not the doctors. Do what is best for you. I chose to take meds to slow my ms because my mother didn't have these options or was allergic to the drugs available at that time. If I can stop my MS from progressive then that's what I am going to do. Stay strong, have faith, lots of love and warm thoughts your way!
