How did their reaction affect you?
I had friends here that said "oh so and so has it and they are fine" and that makes me so irritated I could cry. They don't get what it is like. They think that you take a pill and you are totally fine! I would like for them to try to walk for a day in my feet and see what I go through and tell me I am fine.
When my parents heard the news from my doctor it was hard because they don't speak much English I don't think they understand the severity of the disease. Of course they're worried but I hate it when they give their own personal advice and think something will help me but in reality they're just stressing me out more. When I told my girlfriend she was very supportive of me. I told her very early on in the relationship because having to deal with my ms problems is a big commitment. She is very supportive and always takes time in her busy life to take me to my infusion appts and reminds me to take my meds even though she is hundreds of miles away in grad school.
Most people were awesome and handled it really well. The frustrating thing is when a person tries to give advice when that person had read nothing about MS. I think I am the person that took the news the hardest. Good luck to you!
So many of the individuals that I have told of my diagnosis of MS, turn and say to me, oh I have a good friend that has MS. And then they question me about the disease. It makes me wonder if they really have a good friend that has this disease
