Lately I have been choking and having issues when swallowing. Its like things aren't cooperating when I chew and swallow. It scares my kids and husband. Does anyone else experience this?

I have a special cup because I choke they did a swallow test and found nothing. They attributed it to anxiety or something. This made me angry I knew something was wrong. Later a nurse found the issue. I have lost my gag reflex and this is causing the issues. This does not show on a swallow test it does not always go down the wrong side an the swallow is normal but sometimes the stuff goes ddown the wrong side because food/drink is not recognized by the body before it is sent down and it goes into the wind pipe instead of where it supposed to go. Hope this is helpful.

Have you had any swallowing tests to see if any food or liquids are going into your lungs? It’s important to make sure it’s not. Also, there’s therapy you can get for swallowing, I’ve done it myself and it was very helpful. Your neurologist can send you for testing. How long have you been experiencing this?

Yes i do quite often. I went to a throat specialist and she said to take real small bites always have something to drink when eating. And to slow down my eating and dont talk when i have food in ky mouth. and thats all she could say about food when i eat. As far as. Chocking on my own saliva, she couldnt help with that. So thats all could good say. Except my theough is very small and to be carefull. I hope this helped some. But that is all the therepist good help even after i did a swallowing test.😀😀

I developed swallowing problems recently (Dx'd 1986)--learned to eat slowly, small bites, some foods such as stiff leafy greens are hard to swallow, eating slowly = increase in fatigue. "Good News"? I have a perfect excuse to avoid kale ( I hate kale) and the less time I spend at table to avoid fatigue may = eating less = weight loss?
