Reading all this great info provided today. Some surprising! Like the mouse protien article...but question i have is should our diet be gluten and dairy free? I also read eliminate snacks...may be tough to let go of those. Lol

I'm a Kiwi, no I will not ever eliminate Dairy, a life without cheese, yoghurt and milk is no life at all 😁. I am however, prediabetic, so I have eliminated sugar completely and limit my carbohydrates. I'm also sensitive to caffeine (makes my bladder squeeze πŸ™„) You'll have to sort yourself, we're all individuals. I'm not sure if there's anything dietary that helps MS.

As for gluten there are huge issues and unless Dr has prescribed it, its not a good idea to go gluten free plus in reality many drugs have binders that a gluten based. Instead go more heavey on veg and fruit.

IMO it depends on the individual.

But for *many* MSers -- both the patients and their doctors -- it's recommended to avoid gluten and dairy (myself, I avoid both).

Reading the book "Grain Brain" (https://www.amazon.com/Grain-Brain-Surprising-S...), the doctor/author (not an MS specialist) notes that all grains have an inflammatory impact on our bodies.

To expand: Grains provide relatively little nutrition for us -- just calories/carbs which we don't need.

Gluten is problematic for many people because the nasty food corporations that produce our foods have replace traditional thickeners like corn starch with the cheaper gluten. Thus today we eat *way more* gluten than people did in previous years/generations.

Having been on *many* MS diets they have commonalities (this dates back to Dr. Shank's first treating MS with diet back in the '70s): they tend to be very high in veggies and especially greens. They avoid red meats and saturated fats. And they recommend avoiding dairy and sugars (the "Grain Brain" author notes that "sugar is poison to the brain," a sentiment expressed by many doctors).
